Match Report 2007/2008

22nd September

Sunderland seconds had a superb moral boosting win in the Candy Leagiue against opposition three leagues above in the National Leagues against the seconds from North Division 1 side Penrith. Sunderland started the better in the game and within five minutes Jack Teasdale went over for a try which was converted by Matthew Kyle. Soon after Jamie McLennan returning from injury handed off two players before crashing over for a try. Minutes later Kyle added another penalty, but Penrith responded well with two tries and the score at half time was delicately balanced at 15-14.
The second half saw Sunderland score again with another Kyle penalty but Penrith scored a converted try respondedto by another Kyle penalty and the game was level at 21-21. Sunderland won the game though when following an error by Penrith the ever reliable winger Dale Wilkinson latched on to the loose ball to score a try and Sunderland won the game by 26-21. Flanker Liam monte had been very impressive throughout the game as had wingers Chris Burns and dale Wilkinson.

15th September

Sunderland seconds were always on the back foot against a strong Darlington Mowden Park seconds in the Candy League, going down 55-5. Impressive centre Mike De Luce scored Sunderland's try.

8th September

Sunderland seconds, weakened by the injuries to first-team players, were well beaten 66-3 by Westoe in the Candy League, with David Baines scoring the Wearsiders' only points with a penalty.
